CRITICS CONSENSUS

A Walk Among the Tombstones doesn’t entirely transcend its genre clichés, but it does offer Liam Neeson one of his more compelling roles in recent memory, and that’s often enough. Read critic reviews

CRITIC REVIEWS FOR A WALK AMONG THE TOMBSTONES

Frank’s film is much more of a noir outing than a straight action feature, and Neeson slips right into the tone and feel of the hard-boiled detective offering.

As a throwback to a type of nasty, ugly crime film of yesteryear, A Walk Among the Tombstones cleans up.

As nauseating as the film’s inventive sadisms can be, Frank succeeds far more in the details than in the larger picture that tries to relate this world to ours.

While we’re waiting for the release of Taken 3, the man who was Oskar Schindler is keeping us in an action hero frame of mind with the moody-but-essentially-empty A Walk Among the Tombstones.

It’s odd to find a movie in which drug traffickers are, if not good guys, at least sympathetic victims of crimes that are even worse.

For all its slick contemporary surface and fashionably nasty trimmings it’s really a throwback to the age of 1940s noir.

What makes A Walk Among the Tombstones so satisfying is the script and direction of Scott Frank.

David Harbour’s villain really is a nasty piece of work with a twisted line in torture.

Neeson brings his usual action-man gravitas, but tempers it with a little humour and more old school police work than he does in the Taken movies.

Ghastly, gritty, and more mystery-thriller than rapid-fire actioner.

This slow-burning mystery draws you in with wit, grit and gravitas.

This is a fantastic and gritty thriller, and it’s definitely a full-on slow burn…a mystery thriller in the classic, film noir sense.

As far as crime/thrillers go this is a by the book film, Typical and predictable plot but it was very well done and gripping, Liam Neeson puts in one of his best performances and carries the film most of the time, There’s little action but it didn’t need much, I had little interest in watching this film but I found it pretty good after having no expectations for it, It can be slow at times but if you’re a fan of a well told noir style thrillers then this film is right up your street.

A bit of a homage (in a good way) to noir as Neeson fleshes out a husk of a man playing at being a private detective on a case he doesn’t want, for people he doesn’t like. It’s a better film than the other reviews here would indicate, and a damn sight better than those Taken films.

A very well made crime thriller. A Walk Among the Tombstones kept me invested throughout the entire run time of the film, featuring Liam Neeson who is great as usual, very dark tone and a well written script. Despite being kind of cliché I still enjoyed this film for what it was going for. Check it out.

I had such high hopes for this movie. When I 1st saw the trailer I couldn’t wait to see it.Now after watching A Walk Among The Tombstones I’m so disappointed. It was an OK movie (I guess) but it’s not something I’d watch again anytime soon.I might watch it again in a couple years if there’s nothing else on or I’m in a mood but that’s it.Even then I’d probably try & find something better to watch.I think my main problem with the movie wasn’t that it was slow at times but that it was too gruesome. Some scenes just had me cringing & seemed too real.1 thing I’m truly happy about is that I got to see this movie for free & didn’t have to pay a thing to watch it.I can only imagine how disappointed I’d be if I had to pay to see it.The best thing about A Walk Among The Tombstones was definitely the trailer
